The Neonatal Unit is an independent division of the 6th City Clinical Hospital. It provides inpatient care (II-level care) to newborns. The capacity of the unit is 100 beds. 45 beds are in the Obstetrics and Physiology Department, 45 beds are in the Obstetrics and Observation Department, 4 beds are for premature babies and 6 beds are in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The Neonatal Unit occupies the 4th and the 5th floor of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Facility. Newborns stay with their mothers, except for the newborns, who need special care. The newborns, who need intensive care or follow-up stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The specialists of the unit provide the 2nd stage developmental care. The unit has the following equipment: humidicribs, bassinettes with heaters, patient monitors, infusion pumps, Malysh phototherapy devices, the ultrasound machine (for abdominal and chest ultrasound examinations) and the machines for artificial lung ventilation. Our specialists may carry out laboratory tests, X-ray examinations, ECG and hearing screening (to detect hearing impairment) on a 24/7 basis.

Every year, about 6000 newborns are delivered in the Neonatal Unit.

Our specialists provide care, including intensive care, to all newborns, including premature and low birth-weight babies. We ensure a proper postnatal follow-up. We also consult mothers on breastfeeding and newborn care.

O.A Platonova, PhD in Medicine, Assistant Professor of the Department of Pediatrics of Belarusian State Medical University, provides consultations.
